Existing Conditions

Chittenden County is Vermont’s largest employment center. With a labor force of approximately 88,000 workers and 95,000 jobs in 2005, Chittenden County is home to roughly one-fourth of Vermont’s population and about one-third of the state’s jobs (VTDOL). Chittenden County has been importing workers from surrounding counties for decades, but as the maps to left indicate, the geographic area from which workers commute into the county continues to expand.
